Arlington residents and stakeholders are encouraged to mark their calendars for Mayor Jim Ross's annual State of the City Address, scheduled for October 30. During the upcoming address at Esports Stadium Arlington, Mayor Ross, currently serving his second term, is expected to outline the city’s achievements and offer insights into future plans aimed at enhancing Arlington’s stature as "The American Dream City."

According to the City of Arlington, the Mayor will cover a broad range of topics, including economic development, public infrastructure, and tourism. Notably, he will also announce the winner of the 3rd annual Mayor’s American Dream Award, which recognizes local contributors to the community's betterment. Previous recipients of this award include Carolyn Mentesana, Executive Director of the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, and Jean Jewell, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Green Oaks School.

The address, which features a ticketed lunch starting at 11:15 a.m., is a partnership event hosted by the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce. For those unable to attend in person, a live broadcast will be available on Arlington’s official Facebook page. The city has indicated that replays of the event will be broadcast on local cable channels afterward.

In conjunction with the Mayor’s address, the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce will also celebrate local businesses by honoring the 2024 Small Business of the Year recipients. Among the awardees are Prince Lebanese Grill, named Small Business of the Year; Burnett’s Staffing, recognized in the For-Profit category; and the Arlington Museum of Art in the Nonprofit sector. Special recognition will be given to JAWS Junk and Waste Removal as the Veteran-Owned recipient, Inspirations Fork & Table as Woman-Owned, and the Golf Center of Arlington as the Minority-Owned recipient. These awards highlight the diversity and entrepreneurial spirit that define Arlington's business landscape. The awards segment of the program is sponsored by The University of Texas at Arlington College of Business.
