Cameron Moffett, a 39-year-old man from Melissa, Texas, has been handed down a 60-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to a series of child sexual abuse charges. Moffett confessed to two counts of Sexual Assault of a Child, and one count of Indecency with a Child, offenses that unfolded over two years beginning when the victim was 14 years old, reports the Collin County District Attorney’s Office.
It was the victim's mother who exposed Moffett after uncovering incriminating text messages, in which he admitted to his crimes. Another child, present in the home witnessed some of the abuse. Collin County Sheriff's Office investigator Brandon Polk led the investigation with the assistance of a forensic interview conducted at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, which captured the victim's detailed account of the abuse.
Moffett was initially released on bond ahead of his January 2024 trial but became a fugitive after severing his ankle monitor the day before proceedings were due to start. He was on the run for two months before law enforcement, including Collin County deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service, located and arrested him. At the time of his arrest, Moffett was discovered living with a woman and her 14-year-old daughter.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Alex Haynes and Ashleigh Woodall prosecuted the crime, supported by District Attorney Investigator Kim Voigt-Eanes, Victim Assistance Coordinator Melissa White, and Legal Secretary Raman Kaur. The sentence is reflective of the community's stance on such predatory acts, ensuring Moffett not only faces the consequences of his actions but also serves as a grave warning to others.
