Concerns rise among Memphis residents due to increased police activity and violence within the city. In the downtown area, a report by WREG reveals that foster children housed in a COGIC apartment complex are significantly contributing to neighborhood unrest. Residents allege that the lack of supervision has led to frequent calls to law enforcement regarding disturbances, including vandalism and assault.
One tenant, who requested anonymity, expressed distress over witnessing an overwhelmed system fail to support these young individuals properly. "Most of the time, when I see the children, no adult is in sight," the tenant informed WREG. There are accounts of juveniles sleeping in closets, insufficient food, and even conflicts that spill out into common areas. Efforts to genuinely to address these challenges appear to be faltering, with one resident declaring to have gone so far as to report the state for negligence.
In other parts of Memphis, violence sadly continues to disrupt the peace. Two sources, Action News 5 and Local Memphis, reported on a fatal shooting in the Hollywood area. Authorities arrived at the 2400 block of Peres Avenue yesterday evening to find one man dead. The Memphis Police Department has not yet found a suspect in this ongoing investigation.
