An officer-involved shooting has triggered an investigation after a robbery in progress escalated into a vehicle chase and a foot pursuit in Mesquite, according to the local authorities. In a media release from the Mesquite Police Department, the incident originated on Thursday at the Watermark Apartments on John West Road.
Ongoing details have surfaced that at around 10:08 pm, a victim reported being robbed at gunpoint and having their vehicle stolen. Just one hour later, an officer spotted the stolen car and initiated a pursuit. This chase ended with the vehicle crashing into a garage at the Treymore Eastfield Apartments, where two suspects fled on foot. During the ensuing chase, one officer discharged their weapon after perceiving what they considered a deadly threat, but it remains unclear if any suspect was struck.
The officer involved in the shooting has been a member of the Mesquite Police Department for four years, and the incident is now subject to multiple investigations. The Dallas Police Department is handling the shooting investigation as it occurred within their jurisdiction, at the Treymore Eastfield Apartments, while the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is also probing the matter independently.
