In a recent announcement, Mesquite's own MVP Nutrition and Energy earned the Texas Downtown Business of the Year accolade, a significant nod at the Texas Downtown President’s Awards gala this past Tuesday in Abilene. The sought-after accolade was presented to MVP in the category for towns with populations exceeding 50,000 and speaks to the business's active role in promoting downtown as a key destination, as well as their engagement in local revitalization and promotional events.
This year, the City of Mesquite saw four nominees climb to the top three finalists positions. Aside from MVP Nutrition and Energy, the city's representatives included Solar Rodeo, recognized for Best Traditional Promotion. Mesquite Arts Center was selected for Best Public Partner; and Heritage Plaza, for Best Renovation. These nominations iterate the city's continued commitment, to downtown development, with over 100 entries typically submitted to the annual awards competition.
MVP Nutrition and Energy's success story is just one part of a larger narrative that's been unfolding in Mesquite over the past five years. The Downtown Development division of the City of Mesquite’s Economic Development Department has accrued eight statewide awards during this period, recognizing initiatives that range from Best Economic Game Changer for Front Street Station to the Resiliency award for both Heritage Plaza and Alejandro's at Front Street Station.
According to the City of Mesquite, the award winners were celebrated at the Texas Downtown Annual Conference, an event that for more than 35 years, has honored the exemplary achievements within Texas downtowns. Texas Downtown, the organization established in 1985, has since its inception been a catalyst for connecting and supporting communities devoted to the vibrancy of downtown areas. Their comprehensive approach includes providing advocacy, resources, education, and crucial industry connections.
