Firefighters in Miami Beach successfully extinguished a fire that ignited in a dumpster and spread to a nearby condominium building yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred outside the Executive condominium high-rise, located at 4925 Collins Ave, where Miami Beach Fire Rescue teams were dispatched after 12:45 p.m., as reported by Local 10.
According to fire officials, the origin of the blaze was traced to a hot object that had fallen down a trash chute amidst an ongoing roof renovation of the building. This event resulted in flames spreading from a plastic dumpster up the building's side, leaving the chute and the exterior charred. Details on this were confirmed by WSVN. A portion of Collins Avenue was, temporarily closed due to the emergency response efforts.
Eye witnesses captured dramatic footage of the fire as it consumed the dumpster and licked the sides of the vintage 1959 edifice, home to more than one hundred units according to real estate websites. Fast-acting fire crews were able to prevent any injuries, and no residents were reportedly harmed as a result of the fire.
"The building is currently undergoing a roof renovation," a spokesperson for Miami Beach Fire Rescue said, in an email to Local 10, "During the process, a hot object fell down the chute creating the dumpster fire. Because, the dumpster is plastic, it caused charring on the exterior side of the building." The timely response of the fire crews averted any further spread of the flames, preserving the structure and ensuring the safety of the Miami Beach community.
Cleanup operations and investigations into the specific cause of the fire are ongoing. The speed and efficiency of the firefighting teams have once again proven essential in controlling what could have escalated into a far more destructive event.
