Nancy Liebman, a former commissioner and community activist recognized for her role in preserving Miami Beach's unique architecture, will soon have a street named in her honor in South Beach. This celebration, marking her as one of the first women in the city to receive such recognition, is scheduled for Monday at Ocean Drive and 9 Street, according to the City of Miami Beach website.

Nancy Liebman has held key positions, including serving as a city commissioner from 1993 to 2001 and leading the Miami Design Preservation League. She has been a strong advocate for protecting South Beach's architectural heritage, fighting against unchecked modernization, and helping save the Miami Beach Feinberg Fisher K-8 Center from demolition. Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt, who proposed the resolution to honor Liebman, highlighted her significant contributions.

Commissioner Bhatt praised Liebman's exemplary courage and unwavering commitment to her community, saying, "She was a trailblazer and modeled for other community activists how to be a fierce and fearless advocate for the causes in which she believed. Our community is better for it," in a statement obtained by the City of Miami Beach.

Liebman's influence extended throughout Miami Beach's preservation efforts. She co-founded Miami Beach United and led the Miami Modern Biscayne Boulevard Association, working to protect Miami Modern architecture. Her legacy is woven into the city's fabric, earning recognition from both local and Miami-Dade County officials. The county unanimously approved the co-naming of the street in her honor, as required by the Miami-Dade charter.
