Miami Beach restaurant owner Nahim Jorge Bonilla, 36, remains in federal custody amid allegations of international drug trafficking. He declined to contest his detention in Miami Federal Court. Bonilla is linked to a cocaine distribution network allegedly led by a former Olympian and is set to be transferred to Los Angeles to face multiple charges. The Miami Herald reported on the case, which involves figures from across the Americas.
Last Wednesday, FBI agents raided Bonilla's Aventura residence, leading to his arrest. The operation, part of an indictment, outlines a drug ring accused of trafficking large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine and linked to several homicides, including the shocking murders of an Indian couple in Canada. According to WSVN, Bonilla was one of 12 individuals arrested in the operation.
One shocking accusation involves former Olympic snowboarder Ryan James Wedding, 43, who allegedly left behind his sports career to join an international drug syndicate. According to the Miami Herald, Wedding reportedly used extreme measures to ensure compliance among his associates, including threats of violence. The drug ring allegedly targeted Bonilla's family, using fear and intimidation to enforce payment for narcotics.
During the incident, agents reportedly uncovered evidence of complex financial schemes designed to launder crime proceeds, including over $3 million in a single cryptocurrency wallet. Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles detailed the group's operations, which involved purchasing cocaine in Colombia, shipping it to Mexico, and using long-haul truckers to transport the drugs to Los Angeles and beyond. Agents highlighted that these digital transactions carry a significant human cost, with a minimum of four lives lost due to the alleged brutality of the operation.
