A tragic shooting in Miami's Little River area has resulted in the death of one man and critical injuries to another. The incident occurred early Friday morning near a dead end on Northeast 77 Street at First Court, a locality familiar to the Little Haiti neighborhood. According to Local10, Miami Police responded to alerts from a ShotSpotter detection system around 12:50 a.m. to find a 30-year-old male deceased from gunshot wounds. A second victim was hastily transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.
"The man asked for a beer, and when we told him no, he became irate," Marlon Castro Martinez, the cousin of one of the victims, told WSVN. This interaction abruptly escalated when the assailant drew a firearm, prompting Castro Martinez and others to flee. The pursuit ended tragically with Robin Fernandez, aged 35, shot dead and 32-year-old David Pichinte critically injured. Surveillance equipment in the vicinity captured both video and audio of the ensuing gunfire, adding a layer of documented reality to the night's events. "He could be around, just walking at night," one concerned citizen said. The City of Miami Police, aided by ShotSpotter technology, are canvassing the area in search of the suspect, whom witnesses describe as possibly 17 to 18 years old.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. To encourage community involvement, a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered through Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, which can be reached at 305-471-TIPS. Calls can remain anonymous to protect those who may fear repercussions for helping law enforcement. The search for the gunman is ongoing.
