Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins has announced the 3rd Annual Hometown Heroes Parade and Festival set to honor our local first responders. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tropical Park, located at 7900 SW 40th Street, Miami, FL 33155. Information released showcases the parade as a tribute to the men and women dedicated to our safety.
This celebration will see Enrique Santos, a radio personality known for advocating on behalf of law enforcement, serve as the Grand Marshal. It's also a time to solemnly remember those we've lost, including Detective Cesar “Echy” Echaverry. To permanently honor his memory, a new annual award titled the Cesar "Echy" Echaverry Hero’s Award will be introduced. "It is particularly meaningful this year as we introduce the Cesar 'Echy' Echaverry Hero’s Award, ensuring that Detective Echaverry’s courage and sacrifice are never forgotten," Commissioner Cohen Higgins said to Miami-Dade County website, stressing the importance of community and remembrance.
The parade is showcasing a procession featuring police officers, firefighters, and other public service heroes. It's a family-friendly festival complete with live entertainment, food trucks, and to punctually end, a firework display that promises to light up the evening. The occasion is meant to bring together locals to show gratitude and support for those who commit to public service and safety every day.
Residents and guests are encouraged to join the festive activities at Tropical Park to partake in the celebration and also in a collective act of community pride and reflection. Announced by the district office, this parade and festival aim to "celebrating our heroes, recognizing their contributions, and showing our gratitude for the sacrifices they make every day."
