After a yearlong hiatus, Tuetano Taqueria, the Michelin-recognized eatery known for its slow-cooked beef birria, has reopened its doors in Chula Vista. The taqueria, helmed by celebrated chef Priscilla Curiel, was previously located in San Ysidro and Old Town but now resides at 216 Third Avenue, near the historic Vogue Theatre. As SanDiegoVille detailed, the move also brings Curiel's popular coffee and burrito spot, Mujer Divina, to the same locale.
The taqueria's relaunch is not just about bringing back its famed birria and bone marrow tacos, which commanded a dedicated following at its former locations. As Curiel stated, as per CBS8, "I'm Mexican and very proud of my roots, of my culture, of my cuisine," indicating that the essence of her establishment is intrinsically linked to her heritage and personal story. Tuetano Taqueria stands as a testament to cultural pride and the authentic home-style Mexican cuisine it aims to serve.
A soft opening announcement on Instagram reflected the excitement surrounding the taqueria's return, inviting patrons to experience the new space and staff. Enthusiasts of Tuetano Taqueria will find the doors open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The post also notes that, at present, no phone orders will be accepted as the team eases into operation in Chula Vista.
Since its inception, Tuetano Taqueria has garnered significant attention, getting nods from Food & Wine, GQ, and even the Michelin Guide, which recognized it as a "Delicious Discovery" in California. The acclaim speaks to the high quality and authenticity of the food experience. Chef Curiel's background, having grown up in a family deeply rooted in a restaurant business across the border, no doubt plays a significant role in infusing her dishes with tradition and flavor.
