Minnesotans brace for a blustery day as the National Weather Service (NWS) Twin Cities/Chanhassen forecasts gusty winds reaching up to 50 mph across central Minnesota, according to the latest weather update. These windy conditions are expected to persist into the mid-morning before progressively calming, leading into a week highlighted by clear skies and rising temperatures, with Minneapolis anticipating a comfortable high near 63 degrees later today.
For tonight, clarity prevails as the NWS predicts mostly clear skies with a cooler low around 42, while northwest winds decrease to a gentle 5 to 10 mph, eventually making a shift towards the west after midnight, and looking ahead to Monday, Minneapolis residents can enjoy a mostly sunny day with the high nearing a more pleasant 69 degrees, and the mild weather trend continues throughout the week as Tuesday and Wednesday promise sunny skies with highs in the low 70s, little to no wind interference, giving way to an even warmer Thursday with a high near 81 degrees – continuing to painting a picture of an idyllic autumn week.
However, despite the serene weather conditions forecasted for the majority of the week, the NWS has issued a special weather statement this morning warning of elevated fire weather conditions due to the aftermath of the strong winds and low relative humidity expected to hit between 20 and 30 percent this afternoon, which coupled with our current abundant dry foliage, could spell rapid spreading of any potential fires that may break out.
The NWS has yet to call for SKYWARN spotter activation but urges Minnesotans to remain vigilant during this period of heightened fire risk, and they advise checking local guidelines on burning restrictions by visiting the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website, as the combination of dry vegetation and gusting winds create a precarious balance for both emergency responders and the public. While looking beyond today and as we settle into the week, the forecast eases, projecting no hazardous weather in the immediate days to come, suggesting Minneapolitans seize the opportunity to enjoy the peak of the fall season under these near-perfect conditions.
