In a recent sweep aiming to curb the city's rampant gun violence, Fifth Precinct patrol officers made a decisive arrest over the weekend. The Minneapolis Police Department, in a Facebook post, reported that officers on a routine patrol encountered a man seemingly attempting to obscure his face with a facemask in what has been recognized as a hotbed for firearm-related incidents. This individual, upon noticing law enforcement's presence, elected to quickly flee on foot—only to be captured after a brief chase.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department's statement, the ensuing search of the suspect yielded a firearm, various narcotics, and a significant sum of cash. The suspect now faces charges for carrying a firearm without a permit and for possession of narcotics.

Chief Brian O'Hara conveyed praise for both civilian and sworn officers' ongoing diligence in addressing neighborhoods plagued by violent crimes. "Our sworn and civilian staff work diligently to identify areas in the city that are experiencing high levels of gun violence and then take action to reduce those levels," O'Hara expressed. "This arrest goes to show that it's not just our specialty units patrolling these areas. Patrol officers are the backbone of every department, and I am incredibly proud of the work our patrol officers are doing to combat violent crime," he stated, as per the Minneapolis Police Department.
