In a recent operation by the Minneapolis Police Department aimed at clamping down on violent crime, a Focused Enforcement Detail was led to seize weapons and drugs in the city. As per the information released on the department's social media account, the collaborative effort involved local, state, and federal law enforcement partners resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals. The haul from the detail included eight firearms and various narcotics such as cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.
The department reported a case during the operation where a traffic stop by the Southside CRT team led to the discovery of a stolen firearm, fentanyl, and a significant sum of cash. Another instance involved a suspect known to officers, fleeing from a traffic stop, but was later caught and found in possession of a firearm and cocaine. These targeted actions were part of an initiative to proactively address gun violence and drug-related crime in the community.
Additional details from the enforcement operation highlighted the effectiveness of the CRT, or Community Response Team, in Minneapolis. One male suspect with an aggravated robbery warrant was apprehended by the First Precinct CRT and found to be armed. Furthermore, a female connected to about 30 theft cases was also arrested. The success of these teams is a notable aspect of the broader operation strategy.
