Missing Hernando Woman, 80, Found Deceased in Submerged Vehicle in Pasco County After Hurricane MiltonSource: Facebook/Hernando County Sheriff's Office

The search for 80-year-old Moira Bossard, reported missing since last Tuesday, came to a conclusion when authorities discovered her body inside her submerged vehicle. As reported by FOX 13 News, the Hernando County Sheriff's office stated that her car was found in a body of water in neighboring Pasco County.

Before her disappearance, Bossard was last seen intending to take refuge from Hurricane Milton at Challenger K-8 school in Spring Hill, which was being used as a shelter, although she never checked in according to shelter staff, her neighbors had described her as "confused," they had noticed her leaving for the shelter but she returned home stating she was lost and even discussed driving to Tennessee to stay with her family, a plan deputies confirmed she never executed, the information from neighbors was detailed by WFLA.

Mandatory evacuation orders were in place for zones A, B, and C to the west of US 19 ahead of Hurricane Milton due to historic flooding predictions, especially near the Withlacoochee River, as noted by WFLA. The sheriff's office remarked on the tragedy with a message of condolence: "Sheriff Al Nienhuis and the men and women of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office send our condolences to Ms. Bossard’s family, friends, and loved ones."

The office of the sheriff, while extending sympathy has not at this time provided information on whether any review of procedures or policies will be undertaken following Bossard's death.
