Mission Hills is about to get a fresh splash of culinary culture as Paradis gears up to open its doors this Saturday, November 2. This new hotspot promises to delight locals from the early morning, starting at 8 a.m., with a grand opening complete with DJ-spun tracks scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. According to San Diego Eater, the ground floor of the chic Sasan building will be transformed into a vibrant café by day and a buzzing pintxo bar by night.
The owner, Jacquee Renna, Paradis, is part one of a culinary duo, with a rooftop restaurant and cocktail bar, Communion, also on the horizon. The cherry on top of the Sasan building, Communion is expected to be fully operational by the end of November under the guidance of executive chef Mike Moritz. These ventures look to become a staple in the Mission Hills dining scene quickly.
Early risers can look forward to indulging in various pastries crafted by Aly Lyng, a veteran of George's at the Cove. "Olive oil tea cakes, everything bagel scones, and butterfly-shaped palmiers" are just a sample of the treats mentioned by San Diego Eater, sure to pair nicely with the seasonally flavored lattes. Meanwhile, Jon Hawkins, also hailing from George's, has concocted a menu that includes "Spanish-style French toast with peanut créme anglaise and banana, breakfast sandwiches filled with bacon and chorizo baked eggs, and salads topped with basil fried chicken, skirt steak, or salmon," perfect for a leisurely brunch or a quick, satisfying meal.
And there is, of course, the principal architect of Paradis' flavors, Chef Jon Hawkins. A native of San Diegan, his passion for cooking is about much more than just the profession; it's about enriching people's lives with sumptuous plates. As per Paradissandiego, he takes pride in his menu, which "features fresh, locally sourced dishes perfect for morning or midday noshing." The Toasted Farro and Coconut Pudding is one dish he's particularly excited for patrons to try — an example of his vision for modern, elevated small bites as the sun sets on Mission Hills.
Located at 901 W Washington, Paradis' doors will be open Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., inviting all to find a little piece of paradise in the area.
