Modesto has been rocked by a tragic incident after a local woman and her teenage son were found dead in their home. The Modesto Police Department confirmed the discovery of the bodies on Citrus Drive following a welfare check initiated when the woman failed to appear for work.
According to the police department's social media update, the call to check on the wellbeing of 46-year-old Sierra Morgan was made on October 24 after a neighbor reported not seeing her for several days. The police found her and her 17-year-old son deceased from gunshot wounds upon entering the residence. Officials state that the son's wound appears to have been inflicted by another, while Morgan's wound is believed to be self-inflicted. A handgun was found at the scene.
Investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide. While details surrounding the motivations for the incident are still under investigation, authorities have stated that they are not looking for any additional suspects. The identity of the male victim has been withheld, but it is confirmed that he is Morgan's son. The two were the sole occupants of the home.
