A motorcyclist lost his life in a crash with an SUV on Monday evening in northwest Las Vegas. The accident happened on N. Rancho Drive, just north of Torrey Pines Drive. The 32-year-old rider, who was from Las Vegas, was riding a 2013 KTM 1190 RC8 at a high speed when the collision occurred, as reported by the News 3 LV.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred after 7 p.m. when the motorcycle, speeding north, collided with a 2020 Lincoln Corsair that was in the process of turning left into a private driveway. The impact was such that it sent the motorcycle crashing into the SUV's right rear and ejected the rider. While speeding, witnesses had seen the motorcycle before it met with the back of the SUV, a detail conveyed by KTNV.
The aftermath of the accident saw the motorcyclist transported urgently to UMC Trauma with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead, as News 3 LV reported. Aside from the fatality, both the driver and a passenger in the Lincoln also sustained injuries. They were taken to UMC for treatment. The driver has been cooperative with authorities and exhibited no signs of impairment.
The incident resulted in a significant shutdown of a major roadway segment, with both north and southbound traffic on Rancho Drive being locked down between Craig and Lone Mountain roads. Police indicated that the closure was expected to last for some hours, as mentioned by officers who continued their investigation late into the night at the scene of the wreck, as reported by KTNV.
