A fatal traffic collision occurred on Stelzer Road in Columbus, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist yesterday evening. According to a media release by the Columbus Division of Police, the accident involved a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Buick Encore, the former traveling north and the latter heading south as it attempted to turn east onto Middlemore Drive.
The motorcycle rider, identified as James Mckinnie, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:55 pm. The vehicle collision in the intersection resulted in both parties entering simultaneously, and the emergency response ensued shortly thereafter. The occupants of the Buick sustained injuries but were treated at the scene. Columbus Police's Accident Investigation Unit is currently leading an in-depth investigation into the events that led to the tragedy.
The specifics of the crash, including contributing factors such as road conditions, traffic signals, and speed, are under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation. The aftermath of such incidents raises questions about intersection safety and the need for awareness from all who navigate these shared roads.
Local traffic in the area was impacted for several hours as the Accident Investigation Unit processed the scene, collecting evidence and testimonies as they worked against the fading light and the rush of commuters eager to make it home. Their patience was wearing thin as roadblocks detoured them through less-traveled avenues. The investigation into the crash continues, and updates are expected as new information becomes available to the authorities involved.
