A tragic collision between a motorcycle and an SUV in Columbus ended with one man dead and others injured yesterday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. at the intersection of Stelzer Road and Middlemore Drive, as reported by WBNS. Police identified the motorcyclist as 43-year-old James Mckinnie, operating a Harley Davidson north on Stelzer Road.
While passing the intersection, Mckinnie's motorcycle collided with a Buick Encore attempting a left turn to head east on Middlemore, a detail provided by both The Dispatch and ABC 6 On Your Side. The force of the crash fatally injured Mckinnie, who was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m., the former of the two publications reported.
Occupants of the Buick were treated at the scene for injuries, but none required hospitalization. As investigators piece together the moments leading up to the crash, the intersection has become an all-too-familiar tableau of tragedy and metal, with traffic patterns and vehicle dynamics under scrutiny by the Columbus police Accident Investigation Unit, according to ABC6.
