A severe fire on the East Side of San Antonio damaged multiple homes, affecting six houses and a storage shed. The blaze started yesterday just before 5 p.m. at the corner of Nolan Street and North Gevers Street, where firefighters found the original structure fully engulfed in flames that rapidly spread to nearby homes, according to FOX San Antonio.
Despite the rapid response, a second fire managed to ignite a block away caused by embers from the initial blaze. The Red Cross is on standby to assist the residents displaced by the fire, the exact number of whom remains unknown. A dog was saved from one of the houses, and while there were no human casualties reported, the physical toll has yet to be fully assessed. The dry conditions combined with high temperatures are being blamed for the rapid spread of the fire, according to firefighters on the scene.
KSAT confirmed that the fire affected houses in the 1900 block of Nolan Street, eventually reaching as far as houses on Blue Bonnet Street. Among the units, one was declared a total loss. Some of these homes were vacant, but it is still unknown which were occupied at the time of the fire.
More than 30 units from the San Antonio Fire Department responded to the fire. The cause is still under investigation. Efforts are ongoing to assess the full extent of the damage.
