Patrons at the bustling Sawgrass Mills shopping destination have been confronted with a reality as reports have surfaced of multiple restaurants facing closures due to health inspection failures. Amongst those eateries ordered to close, rodent droppings and unsanitary conditions have raised serious concerns about food safety practices.
It was an unenthusiastic welcome back for Chez Nous Restaurant Plus after being previously shut down in January 24 for roach activity; the establishment was ordered to shut once again on October 1 amidst a series of health violations including evidence of live roaches and mishandled food, according to a report by Local 10. Similarly, Ten Ten Seafood & Grill grappled with its own rodent-related closure for the second time in less than a year while facing additional scrutiny over temperature control and cleanliness issues.
Aji Latin Grill, another establishment caught in the health inspection, was flagged for a multitude of concerns including live roaches found crawling near food preparation areas, the use of ingredients from unapproved sources, and temperature abuses that led to stop sales on select menu items, as detailed by the same Local 10 news article. The report from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation highlighted a significant 34 violations at this Kendall/Hammocks area eatery.
Three additional Sawgrass Mills mall dwellers - Japan Café, Sbarro, and Currito Burrito - have been met with close scrutiny, each having been confronted with closures last Friday related to the presence of rodent droppings and concerns over food safety and handling practices, they were fortunately, like their peers, permitted to reopen following re-inspections, as confirmed by Miami Herald. While these incidents reflect individual lapses in protocol, the collective nature of these infractions at such a popular South Florida retail and dining hub raises questions about the broader implications for food safety in high-traffic consumer spaces.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, El Gran Bamboo Restaurant Bar & Lounge suffered the ignominious discovery of a live roach in beans on their steam table, a strikingly visual testament to the failures in maintaining basic hygienic standards. This jarring insight was coupled with a broader range of infractions throughout the establishment, completing a pattern of infringements across various Sawgrass eateries that underscore the importance of stringent health inspections and compliance in the food service industry.
