A significant collision on Interstate Highway 35 near Pflugerville, involving multiple vehicles including five semi-trailers and two cars, has led to an extensive road closure that's likely to disrupt traffic well into the afternoon hours, as per information from the Department of Public Safety (DPS). The accident occurred early Tuesday morning around 12:15 a.m., just south of the Grand Avenue Parkway exit, and emergency response teams were quickly on the scene, providing much-needed aid, as reported by KXAN.
The incident has forced all southbound lanes to shut down, with the roadway expected to remain inaccessible until roughly noon; in the meantime, traffic is rerouting onto McNeil Road in Round Rock but the extent of the backup and resulting congestion suggests that this detour is hardly a remedy for the chaos unleashed by the crash. According to KXAN, "DPS said five semi-trailers and two passenger cars are involved."
While the cause of the crash remains unclear as of now, the aftermath is starkly evident. The Pflugerville Fire Department reported three injuries with one individual having been transported by Starflight and two others via ambulance to local hospitals, as per KVUE. The overall condition of the injured remains undisclosed.
