The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is actively on the lookout for community members eager to have a say in how their tax dollars are being spent by joining the Community Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC). This committee plays a critical role in shaping the Sheriff's Office budget, with seats ready to be filled by residents ready to make a difference. As reported by the Sheriff's Office, the committee provides a key platform for public participation in fiscal decision-making.
Community engagement through the CBAC is a chance to not only learn about the operations of the Sheriff’s Office but to also to actively influence its future budgeting. Members are expected to meet monthly from November through April, without the need for previous budgeting experience. The group then presents its recommendations to the Multnomah County Chair and the Board of County Commissioners at a public board meeting each spring, a critical juncture ahead of the adoption of the county's annual budget.
Those interested should note the application timeline managed by the Multnomah County Office of Community Involvement (OCI). Potential applicants can attend one of two voluntary information sessions happening virtually on October 2 and October 3 at 5 p.m. The OCI is on hand to address inquiries and will provide the necessary Zoom link upon request. Applications are expected to be submitted by the deadline on October 11, with the review process running from October 14 to October 18. According to the Sheriff's Office, selected members will be notified of their acceptance by October 29, with a general orientation scheduled for November 6 at 6 p.m.
This open call for committee members reflects an ongoing commitment by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office to maintain transparency and incorporate community input into its operations. It is an opportunity for citizens to have not just a seat at the table, but also to directly be involved in the shaping of policies that will inevitably affect the broader community. Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out to the OCI for more details and to secure their place at the upcoming information sessions. The community's participation is not just welcomed but is indeed vital to ensure a balanced and representative budgetary process.
