Clifford Jones Jr., a 35-year-old resident of Bell Road, has willingly turned himself over to authorities after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with the death of James Sutton, who suffered fatal injuries during a physical confrontation last Monday. The incident occurred on South 5th and Russell Streets. Jones was identified as the prime suspect following the assessment of nearby surveillance footage, according to a report from the Nashville Police Department.
The same surveillance system placed Sutton in the fatal scenario, where he was seen being pushed forcibly to the ground. As the investigation unfolded, detectives were able to track down footage of Jones at an auto store, wearing the same attire as the one he donned during the incident, as reported by the Nashville Police Department.
Following his surrender, a judicial commissioner set Jones's bond at $40,000. The charge levied against him is serious as the city grapples with the realities of an abruptly ended life, and legal proceedings loom ahead for the accused.
