In a concerted effort to address the alarming trend of firearms theft in Nashville, law enforcement officials are urging locals to adopt better security measures for their vehicles. The Nashville Police Department has noted that out of 1,024 guns reported stolen so far this year in Davidson County, a staggering 73% were taken from vehicles.
The thefts, often perpetrated against unlocked automobiles, saw a spike of eight stolen guns from vehicles in just last week. With guns and cars alike frequently serving as instruments in further crimes, such as carjackings and robberies, the police's initiative launched on February 1 has led to the arrest of 905 individuals and the recovery of 478 stolen vehicles and 187 guns, according to the Nashville Police Department.
Reflecting on the department's efforts, a statement issued by the Nashville Police Department underscored the necessity for residents to take proactive steps in safeguarding their belongings, including firearms, when they are left in an automobile.
