A 17-year-old boy, identified as Corey Carpenter, sustained critical injuries last Friday in a car crash involving a stolen Audi Q5 on Murfreesboro Pike near Morris Gentry Boulevard, a report from the Nashville Police Department stated. Carpenter was ejected from the vehicle, and found 115 feet away from the Audi, after the car, traveling at high speed, struck a curb, went airborne, and consequently collided with a utility pole and then a culvert.

According to the preliminary investigation, Carpenter was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and his speeding in the right turn lane caused the crash, the stolen vehicle was taken just the day before from a Criddle Street residence, where the keys were reportedly left inside. Carpenter is currently receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police recovery efforts at the scene turned up two handguns, a 9-millimeter magazine, and two laptops inside the wrecked car, adding another layer to the ongoing investigation surrounding the circumstances before the crash. The extent of Carpenter's involvement with the items found in the car remains unclear at this stage.
