Two teenagers are facing numerous charges after a hit-and-run incident in Nashville that left a pedestrian seriously injured, but fortunately, not with life-threatening conditions. The Nashville Police Department reported the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. yesterday on Commerce Street at the intersection of Representative John Lewis Way. After hitting the pedestrian, 18-year-old Deshawn Horn and a 17-year-old female abandoned a stolen 2022 Kia Sportage and attempted to flee on foot.
Authorities state that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen the previous night from a parking lot at 1 Titans Way. Surveillance footage from the downtown camera system allowed Central Precinct officers to quickly get a lead and ultimately arrest the suspects outside a Walmart on Dickerson Pike. The victim of the crash was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to urgently receive medical attention.
Horn's charges include vehicle theft, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, failure to render aid or give notice, driving without a license or insurance, and drug possession. He's currently being held in lieu of a $61,000 bond. The female teenager, whose name is not released due to her being a minor, is being charged as well in Juvenile Court with vehicle theft, failure to render aid or give notice, and leaving the scene of an accident. This information is detailed in an official statement from the police department.
The investigation is ongoing, and officers are looking to determine if the teens are connected to further commit vehicle thefts. Details on the victim's condition remain scarce as of the latest reports, but the comprehensive follow-up by the police implies a seamless coordination in the face of emergency resulting in prompt arrests.
