Residents and University of Texas at Arlington students will soon have a fresh mode of transportation at their disposal. In partnership with the city, UTA has announced a new micromobility pilot program set to roll out electric scooters and bikes downtown and around campus starting on Friday. The initiative is aimed to offer convenient travel options within a designated operational area, encompassing Division Street to the north, Collins Street to the east, Park Row Drive to the south, and Fielder Road to the west, according to the City of Arlington.

To access these vehicles, users will need to download the Veo app and create an account, which will then guide them through the steps to start riding. While the speeds are capped at a safe 15 miles per hour, certain zones will require riders to slow down or even dismount. As reported by the City of Arlington, specific rules and regulations apply under both the city's Micromobility Ordinance and Veo's terms and conditions to assure safety for all road users. This adheres to Texas state law that equates bicycles and motor-assisted scooters with equivalent rights and duties to motor vehicles.

For those considering a ride, Veo offers different pricing options that cater to various usage behaviors and frequencies. There's a standard unlock fee plus per-minute pricing, a monthly membership option for more frequent users, and an access program designed to make micromobility more affordable for everyday use. The $5.99 monthly membership, for instance, waives the unlock fee and maintains the same per-minute rate as the standard pricing, while the $5 access program includes free 30 minutes of ride time per day. Additional ride time is billed at a discounted rate, as laid out on the City of Arlington.
