A new passport acceptance facility will open its doors in the Collin County Courthouse on November 4. After a period without local services due to a previous investigation, the new office aims to streamline passport processing for the community, according to an announcement from the Collin County District Clerk's Office.
The initiative, led by District Clerk Mike Gould since his election in 2023, involved a concerted effort to regain passport acceptance capabilities. "We made a trip to Washington, D.C. in March 2023 to meet with our Collin County Congressional delegation to seek their assistance in opening doors at the State Department for reinstatement into the program. We stayed hopeful and finally received word in February 2024 that we were approved by Passport Services management to again operate a facility," Gould recounted, as per the District Clerk’s Office news release.
Collin County has been experiencing rapid growth and the demand for a local passport office has become evident. "North Texas is a hub for international travel, and Collin County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas. Folks in Collin County should not have to travel long distances to neighboring counties just for their passport appointments," Congressman Allred said, as per the District Clerk’s Office news service. With these changes, Collin County residents can look forward to increased convenience and accessibility to passport services.
The new facility, located at 2100 Bloomdale Road, will initially operate by appointment only, with a plan to offer same-day, walk-up services to accommodate the growing needs of the locale. The District Clerk’s Office has implemented improved procedures and audits, ensuring a high standard of service and accountability. These updates were discussed during a Commissioners’ Court meeting on April 15, demonstrating the coordinated effort by county leaders to restore efficient passport processing services to their constituents.
