A San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputy, freshly graduated from Field Training, made a noteworthy arrest during what began as a routine traffic stop last Friday night in Half Moon Bay. According to the sheriff's office report, the deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation shortly before midnight. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered that the driver, identified as 52-year-old Jason R. Quiros of El Granada, was wanted on multiple warrants.
Quiros was found to be in possession of an unregistered, loaded semi-automatic firearm alongside having an outstanding warrant for a Criminal Threats Hate Crime charge and a Disorderly Conduct charge. The encounter represented the deputy's first official shift without a training officer. Additional deputies arrived to assist, leading to the significant recovery of the illegal weapon. In the press release, it was noted that Quiros was taken to the Maguire Correctional Facility, facing charges related to the possession of the unregistered firearm and for his existing warrants.
The Sheriff’s Office has underscored its commitment to community safety and continues to encourage public cooperation. They urge anyone with knowledge of individuals unlawfully in possession of transportation weapons to come forward. Reports can be made confidentially through the Sheriff’s Office tip line.
