A Deer Park Police Department altercation early this morning led to a man being shot by an officer and a woman found critically injured in an apartment. The confrontation took place in an apartment complex located on the 300 block of East San Augustine Street, according to FOX 26 Houston.

The incident reportedly began around 12:45 a.m. when officers responded to an open 911 call with a disturbance heard in the background. Upon arrival, officers witnessed a girl running from an apartment, followed by a gun-wielding man, as per FOX 26 Houston's report. Police say the man, later identified as the children's stepfather, failed to properly follow verbal commands and was consequently shot twice by an officer, with wounds to his abdomen and face.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Following the shooting, officers discovered a woman inside the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was taken to the hospital by Life Flight, as Click2Houston reported. Two children found at the scene were unharmed.

Authorities believe the man and the woman are married. "There were a total of two adults and two children in the apartment," Lieutenant Chris Brown of the Deer Park PD told Click2Houston. The condition of the woman and the details surrounding the initial disturbance have not been fully disclosed. Likewise, it remains unclear what charges the man might face following his recovery.
