The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office has identified a 37-year-old Moody Arteaga as the man found deceased at the Leon Creek Water Recycling Facility, a property of the San Antonio Water System. As reported by KSAT, a worker discovered Arteaga's body floating in a water diversion tank in the morning hours of Sept. 7. The presence of the body was confirmed after initial uncertainty whether it was a human or a mannequin.
The circumstances surrounding Arteaga’s death are still unclear. According to the report by KENS 5, authorities have not yet ascertained the manner of death. Arteaga was last seen by his family on Aug. 24, stating he was headed for a walk on a the greenway trail.
Investigators took note of a backpack found next to a metal panel covering the diversion tank on the day before the body was discovered. This backpack contained credit cards and two cell phones that, when checked against a computerized system, identified the man as a missing person.
Police and the San Antonio Fire Department’s Hazmat Unit responded to the unsettling discovery. The body, upon removal, showed signs of decomposition but no visible wounds. "The two concluded that the discovery was a human body and called police," according to the initial coverage by KSAT.
