Residents of Oklahoma City and surrounding areas will experience a noticeable shift in weather conditions over the coming week. Today's partly sunny skies are set to become fully sunny with a high nearing 80 degrees, as calm winds rise to speeds of 5 to 8 mph from the south, as per updates from the National Weather Service.
Tonight's forecast anticipates mostly clear skies with temperatures dipping to around 66 degrees, and an increase in wind speeds, potentially reaching up to 21 mph in gusts. Moving into Monday, the region is bracing for hotter weather, forecasts suggest a high of 87 degrees with strong south winds blowing at speeds between 17 and 24 mph, gusts could surge as high as 37 mph.
As reported by the NWS, the upcoming days will see a continuation of these conditions with Tuesday's temperatures hovering around 81 degrees – windy circumstances will persist, and gusts may hit 38 mph. But by mid-week, a shift toward less predictable weather takes hold as the likelihood for showers and possibly a thunderstorm on Wednesday rises to 70 percent.
Looking ahead, the NWS predicts a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday night, followed by clearing conditions on Thursday, which will bring a sunny day with a high of 65 degrees. However, the calm won't last long, as chances for showers return on Friday and continue through the weekend.
Alongside the changing temperatures and precipitation, the Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service warns of elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions expected on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. This risk is due to a combination of strong winds, high temperatures, and low humidity. Residents in potentially affected areas—including parts of northern, western, central, and southern Oklahoma, as well as western north Texas—should exercise caution and follow local advisories.
