Earlier today, gunfire broke out outside a Miramar Dunkin' Donuts, resulting in one man's death and another individual injured. The Miramar Police Department was alerted to the incident at 6190 Miramar Parkway at approximately 3:29 a.m., due to multiple ShotSpotter notifications, as reported by NBC Miami. Officers arrived to find shell casings in the parking lot but initially discovered neither victims nor vehicles involved.
Sergeant Tiffany Roy from the Miramar police was quoted explaining to NBC Miami, "When officers arrived on scene, they discovered shell casings in the parking lot. However, they were not able to locate any victims or involved vehicles." The investigation quickly expanded to include additional areas, following two 911 calls that led police to locate the victims. While one man was found at Memorial Regional Hospital with gunshot wounds, the second was discovered at the 2200 block of State Road 7 where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.
Footage obtained by NBC6 revealed a dark-colored BMW and police activity on State Road 7, where authorities had erected a barrier around the vehicle. According to Local 10 News, a Local 10 photojournalist reported seeing two individuals in handcuffs being questioned by police near the scene.
The incident prompted law enforcement to block southbound lanes of US-441, causing traffic disruptions and drivers to seek alternative routes. While police have not yet pinpointed a motive for the shooting, they believe the incident to be isolated and assert there is no danger posed to the community at large. No suspects have been taken into custody, and the Miramar Police Department urges anyone with information to come forth. Witnesses have been cooperating with the authorities, as Sergeant Roy told NBC Miami.
