A fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday morning near Uptown Charlotte, leaving one person dead. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported an incident around 9:10 a.m. on the 100 block of Winding Path Way, where they found an empty vehicle, and multiple spent shell casings, WBTV notes.
Shortly afterward, the scene shifted a few blocks away to the intersection of North Davidson Street and East 12th Street, near the McGill Rose Garden. Upon arrival, police discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medics' efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, WCNC Charlotte states. Preliminary investigations prompted road closures on 12th Street at I-277 for a time, including the off-ramp, to facilitate further investigation.
There are indications that the deadly event may have stemmed from an earlier altercation among youths. According to local residents who witnessed the tragedy, the father of one of the involved children might have been trying to intervene on their behalf and was the individual fatally shot, as per reports by WCNC Charlotte.
