A tragic incident unfolded early this morning at a Halloween party in southwest Oklahoma City, resulting in one fatality and at least a dozen others injured from gunshot wounds. Patty's Event Center, the location of the event, became the site of a violent altercation around 12:30 a.m. between two groups, which rapidly escalated into a shooting both inside and outside the venue. According to News 9, Captain Valerie Littlejohn of the Oklahoma City Police stated that the deadly episode was not random, affirming that the public is not at risk.
With no suspects in custody yet, several individuals were detained and are undergoing questioning by authorities. They are trying to piece together the events, relying on witness accounts and seeking any video evidence that may clarify the incident, Capt. Littlejohn conveyed to KOCO 5. Security was notably absent from the holiday festivity, which might have compounded the chaos as attendees tried to flee the grounds.
As of now, the identity of the deceased has still been withheld, and among the injured, two are reported to be in critical condition. Efforts to reach Patty's Event Center for comment have been met without success. As investigations continue, police maintain a vigilant presence at the site and have encouraged the public to come forward with any relevant information or media relating to the incident.
Complicating the evening, the quarrel between the combatants reportedly began inside the event center, spilled over into the parking lot where the first shots were heard, and then surged back inside, resuming with intensified gunfire. "Those people then went back into the event center where the shooting continued," Sergeant Jon Skuta elaborated in a statement obtained by CNN. The Oklahoma City community now mourns the loss and grapples with the aftermath of a celebration turned tragic.
