A man is dead, and three others are injured following a shootout in McKees Rocks yesterday. Allegheny County dispatchers first received reports of the incident at the intersection of Meyers Street and Ridge Way at approximately 5:32 p.m., as detailed in coverage by WPXI.
Upon arrival, police discovered both a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured man was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. According to WPXI's report, the woman is in critical condition. A third individual was treated on the scene for a gunshot wound to the hand. It was later confirmed that the fourth person, with a chest injury, sought treatment at a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Investigators are trying to piece together the sequence of events that led to the violent exchange and are examining surveillance footage from the area. The police believe that at least two individuals engaged in gunfire in the street, as CBS News reported based on official statements.
Differing accounts of the event were provided by residents, with one neighbor claiming to have heard four gunshots and another asserting as many as 35 shots were fired, according to interviews conducted by KDKA-TV's Ricky Sayer and featured by CBS News. The scene was highly charged, with moments of shouting and visible distress. "When you have a large group of people, when you have bulk people that are shot, that probably each group knows, you're going to have conflict, arguments, yelling back and forth," Lieutenant Venerando Costa shared in a statement obtained by CBS News.
