A deadly fire claimed the life of one person in Wake County near Zebulon, according to local authorities on Monday afternoon. The fire occurred in the 2500 block of Jack Mitchell Road and was first reported around 1:13 p.m. Several fire departments responded, including the Hopkins Rural Fire Department, which was the first on the scene, according to the Hopkins Rural Fire Department on their Facebook page.
After extinguishing the flames, fire officials sadly found one victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity and the cause of the fire are still under investigation, "One person died; no other injuries were reported," stated Fire Chief Chris Ward, as reported by WRAL.
The home, located about two miles northwest of Zebulon, was attacked by fire departments from Wendell, Zebulon, and Pilot, who brought the fire under control by 3:20 p.m., as stated by CBS17. The Hopkins Rural Fire Department confirmed that the deceased was an adult but did not speculate on their gender.
