Orange County Fire Rescue teams sprang into action late evening yesterday on a house fire in the Hunter's Creek neighborhood. According to a report by WFTV, firefighters were dispatched around 7:35 p.m. to the scene near Buckhorn Run Court and Falcon Point Drive, where they found the fire visibly tearing through the roof on arrival. Despite the blaze's ferocity, crews were able to knock it down successfully not long after their arrival.
Another WESH report detailed significant challenges in the firefighting effort. Officials pointed to difficulty accessing the burning home, citing "the amount of objects that were piled on top of each other." This made it harder to quickly navigate and control the situation. Amid the chaos, firefighters pulled off a rescue, saving a woman trapped in the backyard. The intensity of the fire caused the home's second floor to give way, collapsing into the first floor.
One occupant was confirmed to have safely exited the structure and "refused any medical treatment," as initially reported by WFTV. In the ongoing efforts to ensure the fire was thoroughly extinguished, Duke Energy was called upon to secure power to the site. At the same time, firefighters continued the overhaul, extinguishing any remaining hot spots threatening reignition.
