Matthew Jaquith has been arrested for causing extensive damage to the Orlando Fire Department's Fire Station 1. According to WFTV, police report that Jaquith used a rock to break several windows, resulting in around $30,000 in damages. Surveillance footage recorded the incident, helping police confirm the suspect's identity.
According to ClickOrlando, the incident occurred on Oct. 4 around 5:20 a.m. Bike officers were called to the scene after reports of broken windows came in. One officer quickly recognized Jaquith from a previous encounter during their patrol shift.
The arrest warrant for Jaquith was swiftly obtained, and the suspect was located on the same day. During his arrest, Jaquith reportedly confessed to the crime, stating, “The windows, doors at the fire station. They got damaged — by me,” a confession which police said can be heard on the body camera footage. ClickOrlando reported that this footage was instrumental in linking Jaquith to the crime scene.
Jaquith now faces criminal mischief charges and, as per ClickOrlando, has since been released on bond. The Orlando Police Department has not released further details about the motives behind the act or any additional consequences that may follow the damages to the fire station.
