Over 100 dogs have been given a second chance after a hoarding incident in Lockhart was recently brought to light. According to a report by FOX 7 Austin, the Caldwell County Animal Coalition stepped in to rescue the animals, which included mostly chihuahuas. The house where the dogs were found has been described as being in gruesome condition, swamped in fecal matter.

In a collaboration to quickly remove the animals and assure their well-being, fifteen organizations have stepped forward to take in the dogs. "My understanding is that there was a rather sick, elderly person at the home. The family was not aware of the situation, but as soon as they stepped in, they removed the person and put them in facility care," Candy Canales, a Leander resident, told FOX 7 Austin.

KXAN noted that a family member of the homeowner was the one who alerted the coalition to the animals' plight. Suzy Falgout, founder and CEO of Caldwell County Animal Coalition (CCACtx), emphasized their intent "to launch a brick and mortar location in downtown Lockhart next year" to offer low-cost clinics for sterilizing pets, vaccinations, and microchipping, essential services that aim to prevent similar cases from happening.

The city of Lockhart, while not filing a case nor pressing charges in the matter, expressed that they are "actively working to implement measures that prevent similar situations in the future, ensuring the safety and well-being of both animals and community members," as conveyed to FOX 7 Austin.
