Palm Beach County schools will be still and silent tomorrow, as students and faculty are observing Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which ushers in a time of reflection and new beginnings as it marks the head of the Hebrew calendar year. A holy period that commands its reverence, according to the Palm Beach Post.
This break in routine is part of the academic calendar, previously scheduled around the school year; Broward County follows this closure while Miami-Dade differentiates, allowing teachers the day at their discretion, yet ensures students will not attend school on this day. As the Boca News Now reports, Palm Beach County students, who will also experience breaks on October 14 and November 5 – both being teacher in-service days, will return to class on Friday.
The calendar holds more than academic instruction with breaks spaced across the coming months such as the Thanksgiving recess beginning November 25 and stretching to November 29, a time for familial gatherings or quiet reflection informed by personal tradition, according to Boca News Now.
As students enjoy their current and upcoming breaks, it is important noting a recent disruption, Hurricane Helene, which impacted the school calendar, yet Palm Beach County’s approach included reserve days to ensure there was no net loss in school; looking ahead, students also have time off from December 23 through January 3, 2025, aligning with celebrations spanning from Christmas to Kwanzaa, as reported by the Palm Beach Post.
