
Yesterday morning, the Petaluma Police Department responded to a blaze that had engulfed a portable toilet at Lucchesi Park, narrowly avoiding a larger disaster. According to the Petaluma Police Department Facebook post, the incident occurred at 4:46 am near the soccer field. It led to the damage of property owned by the Petaluma Youth Soccer League.
The fire, contained by the Petaluma Fire Department, reached a nearby shipping container holding league materials, resulting in some damage. In a collaborative effort, the Petaluma Police and Fire Inspector's Office are investigating the incident as arson under Penal Code section 451. Their joint investigation will leverage Petaluma FD's expertise in fire science and the Petaluma PD's experience in crime scene analysis and case preparation for the Sonoma County Courts.
Suspected evidence has been found near the crime scene, which could lead to potential suspects.
