Resilience in the face of adversity took on new meaning for the owner of a Phoenix-based dessert food trailer after a terrifying encounter earlier this week. Around the stroke of midnight two masked individuals, clothed in hoodies, robbed the owner of Lahotkeria, Simone Gamez Acosta, at gunpoint, commandeering her truck and food trailer as she was closing up shop.
Despite the chilling scenario, fortune favored the steadfast Acosta, as the Phoenix Police were able to recover both the truck and the attached food trailer just hours after the crime, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The recovery included Acosta's phone, which was left inside the stolen vehicle, along with the firearm used in the robbery.
"I'm still in shock. I thought it was my last night and I wasn't going to be able to see my babies anymore," Acosta said in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The following hours were demanding, as Acosta had to identify her stolen keys and the suspects, and she also worked to clean and restore her damaged trailer in time for the popular First Friday event.
Despite the traumatic events of the night, the tenacious spirit of the Lahotkeria owner shone through. "I understand that times are tough, but we also have problems and that’s why we have to run a business," Acosta told Ponshu. This business, Acosta expressed, supports her through school, adding an additional layer of necessity to her swift return.
