A late-night traffic stop turned pursuit in Pierce County resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of firearms and drugs. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blog, the incident occurred when a deputy, in field training, identified a vehicle at 96th St S and Park Ave driving without its headlights on at approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday, September 28.

The deputy activated his lights and siren, but the suspect's vehicle accelerated instead of stopping, initiating a pursuit. A second deputy, positioned ahead, deployed stop sticks which successfully contacted the suspect vehicle, resulting in deflated tires. The suspect then stopped on 133rd St S, laid on the ground, and reportedly spread his hands out, questioning, "Why are you following me?" despite earlier refusing to pull over, as per the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Upon taking the man into custody, deputies discovered a firearm on the vehicle's floor and a sizable bag of marijuana on the passenger seat. Further investigation revealed the man was a convicted felon and was carrying two .40 caliber bullets in his pockets. The vehicle was impounded, and a search warrant later yielded the recovery of the gun, some methamphetamine, and over 200 rounds of .22 ammunition. The sheriff's department praised the deputies for their communication and teamwork in apprehending the suspect.

The department's blog post concluded with a commendation of the deputies' efforts: "Awesome job deputies! Way to communicate and work together to get another felon in possession of a firearm off the streets."
