In an effort to find homes for hundreds of animals, Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) has launched its Empty the Shelters campaign, now inviting community members to adopt any pet for free until October 15. This campaign is propelled by support from the Bissell Pet Foundation, aiming to address the overflow of more than 500 dogs and 100 cats in need of a loving home, according to a news release by PACC.
For those considering a larger companion, a free crate with the adoption of any dog tipping the scales at 40 pounds or heavier, from today to Sunday. In a move to accommodate would-be adopters, the shelter will extend its hours until 6 p.m. on Saturday. It's a race against time, as the influx of new animals is quickly surpassing the number of willing adoptive homes, says Monica Dangler, PACC's Director.
In a statement sourced from PACC's newsroom, Dangler captured the urgency and collective responsibility needed to alter the futures of these animals: "Our community truly can help Pima County pets on both sides of the equation," she emphasized the necessity for community involvement whether in fostering, adopting, or even aiding in the reunification of lost pets with their families, by maintaining ID tags.
To this end, pet owners can avail themselves of free customized pet ID tags courtesy of Friends of Pima Animal Care Center. These tags aren't just about identification, they symbolize a bond between pet and owner, and a commitment to safety, and togetherness. This offer, like the Empty the Shelters open invitation is part of PACC's larger mission to ensure every outgoing animal is both cherished and secure.
Those interested in taking part in this campaign can find PACC at 4000 N. Silverbell Road, with operational hours posted on their website. The shelter also keeps potential adopters in the loop with daily updates on Facebook and Instagram about promotions, and the pets eagerly waiting for adoption.
