Pima Animal Care Center, known locally as PACC, is gearing up to sterilize some whiskers. They're hosting a free event named Snip ‘n’ Tip, aimed at reducing the number of homeless cats by offering spay and neuter services for community cats. Set for Nov. 1-3 within the confines of PACC’s Multi-Purpose Room at 4000 N. Silverbell Road, this event isn't a first-time affair but part of a series under the shelter's Community Cat Trap-Neuter-Return Program (TNR), as reported by Pima County. The initiative is praised for its humane approach to controlling the cat population in Pima County.

According to a statement from Monica Dangler, PACC’s director, the county's feline community has experienced a surge in births this year, thus amplifying the need for such services. "PACC has seen an incredibly busy kitten season this year," Dangler conveyed. "The more community cats we’re able to alter at events like Snip ‘n’ Tip, the fewer homeless kittens will come into the shelter every year and the healthier Pima County pets will be."

Only outdoor cats and kittens from Pima County are eligible for the Snip 'n' Tip event. One visible sign that a cat has already been fixed is a tipped ear, which PACC and similar animal welfare programs traditionally use as a marker. Kittens must weigh at least 1.5 pounds and must have a committed caretaker to watch them after the surgery.

Appointments are a must and can be scheduled through PACC's booking link, included in their recent announcement. If individuals need to borrow a trap or carrier, they can reach out to the PACC’s Community Cat Program via their provided email, [email protected].
