Attention all drivers and residents in Pima County, expect detours and road closures on Portland Avenue. According to a Pima County announcement, Borderland Construction Company will be undertaking waterline work that mandates the temporary closure of Portland Avenue, just south of Avra Valley Road.
The construction is scheduled to take place today, October 9 through Friday, October 11, with work being done between the early hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. To accommodate this necessary improvement, Portland Avenue will be inaccessible between Avra Valley Road and Safford Street for the duration of the construction hours. However, the road will be reopened outside of these times, lessening the inconvenience for evening commuters and local traffic.
For residents within the affected area, local access will still be possible. The county has assured that there will be provisions for those living within the closure zone to reach their properties, with access being provided from the south via Safford Street intersection. Commuters who regularly traverse this area are advised to seek alternative routes during the operational times of the waterline work.
As with all construction activities, there's an inherent unpredictability. The county has warned that the schedule may change in the event of a mechanical failure or inclement weather.
