According to the City of Pittsburgh official Public Safety Blotter, officers located two shell casings at the intersection of Werder Street and Herrod Street, suggesting that the sound of shots had abruptly punctured the tranquil afternoon.
Witness accounts led to a vehicle quickly being identified, prompting a pursuit that unfolded with cinematic urgency. Police vehicles followed the suspect as they struck another car before desperately attempting to make a sharp turn on Arnold Street. In their attempt to escape, the suspect's vehicle collided with a pole, flipped, and ignited — a sequence of events concluding with the vehicle trapping the suspect. Officers, in a swift response, used fire extinguishers to quell the flames and extricated the individual from beneath the wreckage.
